UK investigates salmonella outbreak linked to imported eggs

Health officials in the UK have confirmed an outbreak of Salmonella that made at least 207 people ill between August 2025 and August 2026. One person died. The UK Health Security Agency began investigating in May 2026 after tests showed a single strain of the bacteria was spreading. Most cases were in England, with London and Yorkshire recording the highest numbers. Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland also had cases. Investigators found that eating out was more likely to be the cause than cooking at home. Eggs appeared to be the strongest link, and officials looked at whether imported eggs were responsible, though no definitive source was confirmed. Only six of the 207 patients had recently travelled abroad, so international travel was ruled out as a cause.
