Los Angeles restaurants serve authentic Mexico City tacos and chilaquiles

The Los Angeles Times has named Taquearte, a small restaurant in a Pico Rivera strip mall, the best place in Los Angeles for chilaquiles. The publication also included it in its guide to the city's 101 best tacos. The owners, Monica Quinto and Anyelo Farfán, both grew up in Mexico City and brought their regional cooking traditions with them to California.

Chilaquiles and tacos are both classic Mexican dishes, though recipes vary widely depending on the region or even the family preparing them. In Mexico City itself, several well-known taquerias have built strong reputations over many years. El Huequito, for example, has been serving al pastor meat since 1959 and now offers it in tacos, chilaquiles, and quesadillas.
