Zelenskyy requests air defence systems at NATO summit in Turkey

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke at a NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey on July 7, calling on allies to send air defence systems to Ukraine urgently. He said Ukraine cannot stop advanced Russian ballistic missiles without outside help. He asked European countries to release Patriot missiles from storage instead of keeping them unused. Russia has carried out several large aerial attacks in recent days. A strike on Kyiv killed at least 21 civilians, and at least 14 people died across Ukraine in one 24-hour period, with 87 more injured. Zelenskyy said getting Patriot systems is his country's top defence priority right now. US President Donald Trump also attended the summit and was due to meet Zelenskyy on July 8.
