Worker's arm broken in sausage roll machine at Kent factory

A food factory worker broke her arm badly after it was caught in moving machinery in December 2023. Ribeca Jesuthasan was cleaning a sausage roll production line at David Wood Baking Limited in Sheerness, Kent. The conveyor had been turned off, but it started moving again while she was working. Her hand went through an unguarded roller, and the machine pulled her arm in, causing multiple fractures. The Health and Safety Executive looked into the incident and decided to prosecute the company. Investigators found that David Wood Baking Limited had not properly blocked access to the dangerous rotating parts of the conveyor. The company was found guilty and ordered to pay a fine of £333,333.
