Woman wins £12 million lottery prize after shopkeeper discards ticket

A woman in Wales nearly lost a £12 million lottery prize because a shopkeeper threw away her ticket. Kath Main, 46, from Abercynon, plays the same numbers every week. When she heard that the 6 June jackpot had not been claimed, she checked her numbers and realised she had won. But the shopkeeper where she bought the ticket had discarded it, and the bins had already been emptied. Main could not prove her win with a physical ticket. Instead, she gave the lottery operator Allwyn her receipt and doorbell camera footage as evidence. The whole process took around 30 days to resolve. Allwyn reviewed her claim and accepted it, meaning she will receive the £12 million prize.
