Woman stabs two people in Times Square, then killed by police

A woman stabbed two people in Times Square on Monday afternoon and was then shot dead by police. The attack happened near West 43rd Street and Seventh Avenue, close to a police substation. One victim, a woman, died. A man was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

The suspect, Pamela Cisneros, 49, from Queens, was carrying two large knives. Officers spoke with her for about four minutes and told her repeatedly to put the weapons down. She refused and said she would kill them.

Police described Cisneros as emotionally disturbed. She had a history of mental health problems and had been involved in two earlier incidents with police, in 2018 and 2019, but had never been arrested. Police said the attack was not terrorism.
