Woman maintains long-distance relationship by alternating between US and Denmark

An American woman has been maintaining a transatlantic relationship with her Danish boyfriend since 2019, travelling between the two countries on a regular basis. The couple first met in 2017, when her boyfriend was studying abroad in the US.

Their arrangement works in cycles. They spend roughly six weeks together in either the US or Denmark, then separate for one to two months before meeting again. Both partners must track their time carefully to stay within visa limits in each country.

Despite the distance, the couple say their relationship feels more purposeful than many others. Because their time together is limited, they tend to avoid quarrelling over small everyday matters. Each person also keeps their own job, social life, and daily routine while they are apart.
