Woman found dead hanging from tree in Mississippi

Tasia Fortune, a 29-year-old mother of four, was found dead on August 3 in Jackson, Mississippi. Her body was hanging from a tree near an empty house. Fortune had last been seen by her mother on July 26, after travelling to Kentucky for a family reunion. Her mother said she seemed completely normal at that meeting. Fortune had lived in Mississippi for over ten years. Police say they are working to understand how she died, but have not said whether they think it is suspicious. Her family does not believe she took her own life. Two other people were also found hanging from trees in Mississippi in the past year, and both deaths were ruled suicides. Many people in the community are calling for a full investigation, because Mississippi has a long history of racial violence against Black people.
