Woman charged after FBI stops alleged New York capitol bombing plot

The FBI arrested Jessica Bowie, 35, on Wednesday after she allegedly planned to bomb the New York State Capitol building. Bowie lives in the Albany area and is an American citizen.

According to investigators, she began planning the attack in July 2026 and pledged loyalty to ISIS online. She had converted to Islam about five years earlier. Bowie visited the Capitol building beforehand to study the location. She planned to hide a bomb inside a food delivery bag.

FBI informants gave her a fake explosive device and a fake gun. She also bought bomb-making materials from a hardware store using $200 from FBI agents. Bowie now faces a charge of trying to support a foreign terrorist organisation.
