Wisconsin lieutenant governor exits Democratic primary race for governor

Sara Rodriguez, Wisconsin's Lieutenant Governor, has left the race for governor. She dropped out on Friday after finding serious problems with her campaign's finances.

Rodriguez had fired her campaign manager four days earlier. After that, her team discovered the campaign had much less money than its reports had shown. She said the ongoing problems with financial reporting made it impossible to continue.

Rodriguez had been the leading candidate among Democratic Party officials. Her exit changes the race completely. David Crowley, the Milwaukee County Executive, had previously dropped out and supported Rodriguez. He has now re-entered the race. At least four Democratic candidates remain in the primary. Wisconsin is a closely divided state, and many Democrats are worried about who can win the general election.
