Wildfire smoke from Canada reaches northeastern United States

Smoke from wildfires in Canada and Minnesota has spread across the Midwest and Northeast United States, causing air quality alerts in several states. Minnesota issued alerts from Tuesday to Friday for the Twin Cities area and other parts of the state. Thirteen counties in New Jersey also received alerts. Ohio had a heat advisory running from noon to 8 PM local time. The smoke contains fine particles that are dangerous for children and people with heart or lung problems. Meteorologists told people to stay indoors to avoid both the smoke and the extreme heat. This is not the first time Canadian wildfire smoke has reached the region. The summer of 2023 was especially bad, when many Canadian fires burned at the same time.
