United States resumes airstrikes against Iran after ceasefire collapse

The United States carried out airstrikes against Iran for six nights in a row in mid-July 2026. The attacks hit military sites near the Strait of Hormuz and along Iran's coastline. Targets included areas near Bushehr, where Iran's only nuclear power plant is located, and military bases near Bandar Abbas and Qeshm Island. The US also blocked Iranian ports with a naval blockade. Iranian officials said at least seven soldiers were killed and hundreds were injured. Power cuts and damage to civilian buildings, including a train station, were also reported. Iran responded by striking US military bases in Jordan, Kuwait, and Bahrain. The fighting restarted after a ceasefire, signed in early June, broke down before peace talks could be completed.
