United States destroys Iranian oil tankers after missile attacks on warships

The U.S. military destroyed three Iranian oil tankers on Saturday after Iran fired missiles at American warships in the Persian Gulf. The warships, including an aircraft carrier and a destroyer, avoided the missiles and no sailors were hurt. The U.S. then struck the tankers in response. One was hit near Kharg Island, one near Jask, and one in the Gulf of Oman. Two tankers were badly damaged and one was completely destroyed. Before the strikes, crews were allowed to leave the ships safely. The U.S. military said the tankers helped fund Iran's Revolutionary Guard and its allied armed groups. U.S. Central Command has warned it will target more of Iran's oil fleet if attacks on American forces continue.
