Ukrainian drones strike Russian oil refinery, killing 13 people

Ukrainian drones struck an oil refinery in Nizhnekamsk, Russia, on Monday, killing at least 13 people. The city is about 1,100 kilometres east of Ukraine.

The attack hit the Taneco refinery and caused large fires that could be seen from far away. Residential buildings and shopping centres were also damaged. Between 39 and 75 people were wounded. At least one child was among the dead, along with eight people from Central Asian countries.

Ukraine confirmed it targeted the refinery. Ukrainian manufacturer FirePoint said its FP-1 drones carried out the strike. Ukraine has been attacking Russian oil facilities regularly in recent months, trying to reduce Russia's fuel production. Long-range Ukrainian drones have now reached targets more than 2,000 kilometres from the border.
