UK heatwave brings peak temperatures of 34°C to south-east regions

The UK Health Security Agency issued heat health alerts across six English regions from 4 July to 11 July as temperatures climbed during a summer heatwave. The Met Office predicted that temperatures would reach 34°C by Thursday or Friday of that week, with conditions becoming hotter early in the week. The heatwave was expected to last approximately seven days. Southern Water introduced a hosepipe ban in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight starting 10 July to manage water supplies during the hot period. Wales did not receive heat health warnings. This heatwave was less intense than the previous one in June, which had reached 37.7°C. The UK experienced multiple extreme heat events throughout summer 2026, leading authorities to issue coordinated public health warnings and water restrictions.
