Uber and Wayve launch self-driving taxi service in London with safety drivers

Uber and Wayve have received permission from Transport for London to run self-driving taxis in the city. The vehicles are Ford Mustang Mach-E cars fitted with Wayve's AI software, cameras, and radar. TfL has issued 15 licences for these cars. A trained driver must sit in the driver's seat during every trip and can take control if needed. The companies said TfL checked the vehicles and confirmed they are safe. Trips were planned to begin in summer, ahead of a wider public launch. Over 100,000 Londoners have already joined a waiting list for the service. Other companies, including Waymo and Baidu's Apollo Go, are also trying to bring self-driving taxis to London.
