U.S. government releases data on how Americans spend their daily time

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics published new data this week showing how Americans divide their time each day. The 2025 American Time Use Survey found that personal care, which includes sleeping and grooming, took up the most hours, around 9.5 hours on weekdays and over 10 hours on weekends. Full-time workers put in roughly 8.5 hours on weekdays and still worked about 5.5 hours on weekend days. Men tended to spend more time on paid work and outdoor tasks, while women devoted more hours to cooking, cleaning, and looking after children. Teenagers recorded the highest amount of time on education compared to other age groups. People aged 60 and over spent more time on household tasks than younger adults.
