Two people killed in grizzly bear attack near Bella Coola, British Columbia

A mother and daughter have died in a suspected grizzly bear attack near Bella Coola, British Columbia. Jennifer Balcarras, 48, and her daughter Selah Reed, 20, went for a walk on Saturday on the Snooka West Trail, about five minutes from their home. When they did not return, the family reported them missing on Sunday. Search and rescue teams found the first body on Monday and the second on Tuesday. Evidence points to a grizzly bear attack, though it is unclear how many bears were involved. No bears have been caught yet. The BC Conservation Officer Service has placed traps in the area and is asking the public to stay away from the trail. Grizzly attacks in this region are rare but have happened before.
