Trump visits Ireland to attend Irish Open at his golf resort

President Donald Trump flew to Ireland on 12 September 2026 to watch the final two days of the Irish Open golf tournament. The event was held at his Trump International Golf Links resort in Doonbeg, County Clare, on Ireland's Atlantic coast. Trump bought the Doonbeg course in 2014, and this was the first time the Irish Open had been played there. Before going to the tournament, Trump attended a meeting with U.S. Embassy staff and business officials. Star player Rory McIlroy, the two-time defending champion, also competed. Irish authorities put extra security measures in place for the visit. The Irish Open was the second European tour event held at a Trump-owned course, after his Aberdeen resort in Scotland hosted a tournament the previous month.
