Trump requests Smithsonian install large George Washington statue

On Friday night, President Trump posted on Truth Social asking the Smithsonian Institution to make several changes at the National Museum of American History. Trump wants an 11-foot George Washington statue placed inside the museum's Flag Hall before September 17, Constitution Day. That statue was originally made for an IndyCar racing event. He also asked for a five-year exhibition about Washington, running until February 2032. Outside the museum, Trump wants a 30-foot Washington statue to replace a sculpture called "Infinity," which artist Jose de Rivera installed in 1967. Trump said the changes would honor Washington ahead of his 300th birthday in 2032. He has previously criticised how the Smithsonian presents American history. The Smithsonian has not commented on his requests.
