Trump reimpose blockade on Iran and charges toll for strait passage

On Monday, President Trump said the United States will block Iranian ships from using the Strait of Hormuz. He also announced a 20% toll on cargo from other countries passing through the waterway. The strait is one of the world's most important shipping routes. Before Iran took control of it, about one-fifth of global oil and gas passed through there. The announcement followed a third consecutive weekend of military strikes between the two countries. Peace talks had failed, and both sides continued to attack each other's interests in the Gulf. The U.S. military carried out further strikes on Sunday evening and Monday. Iran had already closed the strait and targeted U.S. interests in the region.
