Trump dismisses artificial intelligence safety concerns as hoax

US President Donald Trump said on Monday that worries about artificial intelligence safety are a "hoax." He compared them to what he calls the "Global Warming Scam" and the "Russia hoax." Trump rejected the idea that AI could ever destroy humanity. He argued that data centres bring economic benefits and called them "the oil of the next 20-25 years." Trump said the US cannot slow down AI development because it would lose its lead over China. Some technology leaders disagree with him. Jack Clark from the AI company Anthropic has suggested that dangerous AI systems should have a "kill switch." Anthropic's CEO Dario Amodei has also written publicly that the industry should develop AI more slowly and build stronger safety measures.
