Trump criticizes prosecutor for dropping pool damage charges

President Trump met with U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro at the White House on Monday after publicly criticising her decision to drop charges against a former Olympic canoeist. David Hearn had been accused of damaging the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. Pirro's office dismissed the case because investigators found that a contractor made errors during installation, not that Hearn caused the damage. Trump said Pirro "choked" and had made a mistake. He had already posted sharp criticism online before the meeting. Trump personally supported the pool renovation project as part of preparations for the country's 250th anniversary. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum also attended the meeting. Pirro was not fired or asked to resign. She had already spoken with Trump several times, including a phone call on Saturday.
