Trump administration submits Saudi nuclear technology agreement to Congress

The Trump administration sent a nuclear cooperation deal with Saudi Arabia to Congress on July 22. The agreement allows American companies to sell nuclear technology to Saudi Arabia and run power plants there. It was signed by U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright and Saudi energy minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman. Critics in Congress are worried because the deal does not include restrictions on Saudi uranium enrichment. Other agreements, like the one with the UAE, have had stronger protections against nuclear weapons development. Congress has 90 working days to review the deal. Blocking it would require a two-thirds majority vote. The Trump administration has linked the agreement to Saudi Arabia potentially joining the Abraham Accords, a group of countries that have normalised relations with Israel.
