Trump administration seeks Supreme Court approval for mail voting restrictions

The Trump administration asked the Supreme Court on Monday to allow new voting rules to take effect. A lower court had blocked parts of an executive order that President Trump signed on 31 March 2026. The order is called "Ensuring Citizenship Verification and Integrity in Federal Elections." It tells the U.S. Postal Service to create new rules for mail-in ballots. It also asks the Department of Homeland Security to build lists of adult citizens in each state. The administration says the rules must be ready by August for November's midterm elections. Trump has long claimed that mail-in voting is not secure, but studies show that voting fraud is rare. The Supreme Court has not yet responded to the request.
