Trump administration proposes land swap to give Yosemite parcel to developer

The Trump administration has proposed giving a strip of land inside Yosemite National Park to a private company. The land is about a quarter of a mile long and sits near the park's western edge. A Nevada real estate firm called Kingsbarn Realty Capital wants to build a road through it. The road would reach two 40-acre plots that the company owns next to the park. In return, the federal government would receive land of equal value somewhere else in California, but that replacement land has not been chosen yet. National park officials have been working on the plan since at least spring 2025. Conservationists and former park officials have spoken out against it. Transfers of national park land to private developers are extremely rare in recent history.
