Trump administration imposes tariffs on dozens of countries as existing levies expire

The Trump administration put new import taxes on more than 60 countries in mid-2026. A 10 percent global tariff, introduced in February, expired on a Friday night. The government quickly replaced it with new measures under several trade laws. Most of the new tariffs are set at 10 to 12.5 percent. Fifteen countries and the European Union face extra tariffs because the administration says they use unfair manufacturing practices. Canada faces a separate 50 percent tariff under a different law. The Supreme Court had struck down an earlier version of these global tariffs, so officials used different legal authorities this time. The new measures have upset many U.S. trading partners and increased trade tensions around the world.
