Transport for London's Oyster card system goes offline for a week

Transport for London's Oyster Photocard website went down on 16 July, leaving around 931,000 customers unable to access their accounts. The outage lasted until 24 July. During this time, users could not manage their Oyster Photocard details online. TfL described the problem as planned maintenance, but at least one source has reported that a cyberattack was responsible. The attack is said to have affected Oyster card and payment systems. The Oyster card is the contactless payment card that millions of Londoners use every day on buses, trains, and the Underground. The Oyster Photocard is a version of this card that includes a photo. TfL has not confirmed that a cyberattack took place.
