TPG acquires Optum UK and EMIS Group in March 2026

TPG, a global investment firm, has taken ownership of Optum UK, including its subsidiary EMIS Group, completing the deal on 13 March 2026. EMIS provides IT systems to more than half of all general practices in England. Under TPG, Optum UK will operate as a separate, independent business. TPG has said it plans to modernise EMIS-X, a cloud-based platform designed to replace older systems. The company also plans to add artificial intelligence tools to the platform. This is the second change of ownership for EMIS in less than three years, after UnitedHealth Group bought the company earlier. The deal gives TPG control over technology that supports a large part of England's primary care system.
