Tottenham loses 3-0 to Brentford in Premier League season opener

Tottenham Hotspur lost 3-0 to Brentford on August 22 in their first Premier League match of the season. Manager Roberto De Zerbi said his squad is "not a team yet" after the heavy defeat. Five players made their debuts in the game, including Andy Robertson and Sandro Tonali. De Zerbi said the players were not fit enough and lost too many physical battles against Brentford, especially in the first half. He also felt the team had no clear style of play. Twenty-year-old Archie Gray wore the captain's armband because Micky van de Ven was absent. Tottenham spent close to £300 million on new players this summer, but De Zerbi said transfers alone cannot build a real team.
