Tornado strikes French village, injuring dozens and damaging hundreds of homes

A tornado hit the small French village of Pomas on Monday, injuring up to 41 people. Around 15 of them needed hospital treatment, including a pregnant woman whose house collapsed. About 300 homes were damaged or destroyed in the storm. Wind speeds reached up to 117 kilometres per hour. More than 120 emergency workers went to the village, which has around 1,000 residents. Nearly 1,400 households lost electricity. Flights were delayed or cancelled at several airports, including Bordeaux and Toulouse. The area was already under a thunderstorm warning before the tornado arrived. France has several dozen tornadoes each year, according to its national weather service. No one was reported missing after the storm.
