Thousands of migrants crossed into Spanish enclave from Morocco

Around 50,000 people crossed into Ceuta in just 24 hours on Thursday and Friday. Ceuta is a small Spanish territory on the northern coast of Africa, next to Morocco. People entered by sea and by land. Some climbed over border fences, and others swam across. Spain's Interior Ministry counted around 49,000 to 50,000 people. The local government said the number could be as high as 60,000. Ceuta normally has about 83,000 residents, so the numbers were overwhelming. The Spanish military was sent to help manage the situation. By Friday afternoon, more than 25,000 people had already left the territory. Ceuta's government described the situation as "absolutely unsustainable." The crisis has also caused political tensions in Spain.
