Ten climbers missing after avalanche on Broad Peak in Pakistan

An avalanche hit a team of ten climbers on Broad Peak in Pakistan on Thursday, cutting off all contact with their base camp. The team included climbers from Nepal, Pakistan, Oman, the United States, and China. Nirmal Purja, a well-known Nepali mountaineer, was leading the expedition. The avalanche happened around midday. Pakistani authorities and the Alpine Club of Pakistan quickly began a search and rescue operation on the remote mountain. Rescue crews found four bodies on Friday. Two of the dead have been identified as Nadhira Al Harthy from Oman and Nepali climber Pur Bahadur Gurung. Broad Peak stands at 26,401 feet and is the 12th highest mountain in the world.
