Sydney Marathon medal features Munich stadium instead of Sydney venue

Organisers of the Sydney Marathon have made an embarrassing mistake with their 2026 participation medal. The medal shows a stadium on one side, but it is the wrong one. Instead of Sydney's Allianz Stadium, the design features Munich's Allianz Arena in Germany. The two stadiums look very different. Munich's arena has a bumpy surface made from plastic cushions, while Sydney's has a flat front with bronze fins. The two cities are about 16,400 kilometres apart. Organisers revealed the medal design on social media, and people quickly noticed the error. Around 40,000 runners are expected to take part in the race on 30 August 2026. The German stadium even posted a funny reply online about the mix-up.
