Susan Collins builds large fundraising advantage in Maine Senate race

Republican Senator Susan Collins has built a large money advantage in Maine's 2026 Senate race. Collins and her Republican allies have reserved around $60 million in television airtime for the autumn campaign. Much of this money comes from super PACs funded by billionaires. These groups have paid for adverts that support Collins and attack her Democratic rivals.

The Democratic race was thrown into confusion when leading candidate Graham Platner withdrew on July 10 after sexual assault accusations. Troy Jackson then stepped forward as the likely Democratic nominee. Democrats have admitted they will spend far less than Republicans in the general election.

The Maine seat is important because it could help decide which party controls the Senate. The spending gap gives Collins a clear early advantage.
