Supreme Court blocks Missouri's new Republican-favoring congressional map

The U.S. Supreme Court has refused to help Missouri Republicans use a new electoral map in November. Justice Brett Kavanaugh rejected the state's emergency request. The map had been drawn to give Republicans an extra district, but citizens collected enough signatures to demand a public vote on it. Missouri's Supreme Court said the petition was valid, so the new map cannot be used yet. The state must return to the districts it used in 2022 and 2024. Republican Secretary of State Denny Hoskins had tried to block the petition, but the state court overruled him. Officials from 20 Republican-led states had supported Missouri's request. Democratic representatives opposed the push to involve the U.S. Supreme Court.
