Several American studies published between 2024 and 2025 found that AI tools designed to write medical notes can significantly reduce burnout among doctors. In one study covering 263 physicians at six hospitals, burnout rates dropped from around 52% to 39% after just 30 days. A separate trial at UCLA Health, involving 238 doctors and roughly 72,000 patient appointments, showed that AI scribes cut documentation time by nearly 10%. Currently, physicians spend more than half their working day completing electronic records. Replacing some of that work with AI has clear appeal, since losing a doctor to burnout can cost a hospital up to 1.3 million dollars in recruitment. However, researchers noted that AI-generated notes sometimes contained errors or missing information, and one minor patient safety incident was recorded.
