SpaceX rocket stage crashes into Moon, South Korea captures images

A SpaceX rocket stage has crashed into the Moon, and satellite images have now captured the damage. The upper stage of a Falcon 9 rocket hit the lunar surface on Wednesday at around 06:35 GMT. It was travelling at roughly 8,700 kilometres per hour when it struck. SpaceX said the impact was not planned. The rocket stage was about 70 metres tall and weighed around 4,000 kilograms. South Korea's space agency KASA released before-and-after photos from its Danuri lunar orbiter, showing a new crater where the rocket hit. The ground around the site looks darker, with dust and rocks thrown outward. NASA's own lunar orbiter is expected to photograph the site next week.
