South Carolina governor appoints Lindsey Graham's sister as interim senator

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster has appointed Darline Graham Nordone as interim U.S. Senator, following the death of her brother Lindsey Graham on Saturday. Graham died from an aortic tear after serving as a senator from South Carolina for many years.

McMaster made the announcement at the State House in Columbia on Monday. President Trump had publicly supported Nordone for the role earlier that day.

Nordone has never held elected office, but she was closely involved in her brother's political career through speeches and campaign work. The two had a strong bond. Graham became her legal guardian when she was 13, after both their parents died. He once said that her success was the greatest thing in his life. She will serve until Graham's term ends in early January.
