Sony Pictures revenue falls while music division surges on Jackson catalog

Sony Pictures Entertainment reported a 13 percent drop in revenue for the quarter ending June 2026, bringing in $1.98 billion. Television production fell sharply, down 32 percent, because fewer series were delivered to broadcasters. However, operating income actually rose 21 percent, reaching around $155 million.

The company's music division performed much better. Sony Music revenue climbed roughly 21 percent to about $3.5 billion for the quarter. Much of this growth came from renewed interest in Michael Jackson's catalog, including albums like Thriller and Bad. A biographical film about Jackson drew audiences back to his music, boosting streams and sales across many of his songs.

Sony's streaming service Crunchyroll also grew, passing 21 million paid subscribers and helping media networks revenue rise 10 percent.
