Sixteen-year-old dies from cychlorphine in San Francisco apartment

A 16-year-old boy died from a rare synthetic opioid in San Francisco on April 7. Dante Paul Lacourte was found unresponsive by his mother in their apartment in the Lower Nob Hill area. She gave him two doses of Narcan, a drug that reverses opioid overdoses, but it did not help. Emergency services arrived but could not save him. An autopsy later showed the cause of death was cychlorphine, not fentanyl as doctors first thought. It was the first time this drug appeared on a San Francisco coroner's report. Seventeen days after Dante's death, city health officials held a press conference. They warned that cychlorphine is even more deadly than fentanyl, which already kills dozens of people in the city every month.
