Sharp targets 200-300 billion yen from new AI and satellite businesses by 2030

Sharp's president Tetsuji Kawamura announced on 4 July that the company wants to earn between 200 and 300 billion yen from new business areas by 2030. He made the announcement in an interview in Osaka.

Most of this money, more than 80 percent, is expected to come from AI server sales. Sharp also plans to grow its satellite communications business, selling smaller antenna equipment to customers.

These new ventures are being built together with Hon Hai Precision Industry, the Taiwanese company that bought Sharp in 2016. Sharp describes itself as the only well-known global brand inside the Hon Hai group, and the two companies are combining Sharp's customer relationships with Hon Hai's strong manufacturing capabilities to develop fresh sources of income.
