Severe flooding strikes Central Texas, killing multiple people

Heavy rain caused serious flooding in Central Texas on July 16, 2026. At least two people died, and dozens more had to be rescued from floodwater and trapped homes. The Pedernales and Guadalupe rivers both overflowed, putting towns like Fredericksburg, Kerrville, and Comfort under threat. Authorities warned that roads in Kerr County were too dangerous to use. Emergency teams worked across several counties, including Kerr, Gillespie, and Kendall. The situation was especially difficult because the same region suffered devastating floods just one year earlier. Those floods killed around two dozen people, many of them children, at a summer camp called Camp Mystic. Communities had not fully recovered when the new storms arrived and brought days of heavy rain to the area.
