Senior South African police officer arrested on sexual assault charges

A senior South African police officer has been arrested on sexual offence charges. The 59-year-old, who holds a high rank in the service, was charged in September 2026. He is accused of raping an 18-year-old woman at a hotel in Sandton earlier that year. He is also accused of grooming a 16-year-old girl. The case was investigated by a team working on matters connected to the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry. Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane said she welcomed the arrest. She stated clearly that a high rank does not protect anyone from the law. The officer now faces the same criminal justice process as any other person accused of a crime.
