Senator McConnell misses Kentucky political picnic during recovery

Senator Mitch McConnell missed Kentucky's Fancy Farm Picnic on Saturday, his first absence from the event in more than 40 years. The 84-year-old Republican fell at his Washington home in June and was taken to hospital. He later moved to a rehabilitation facility to continue his recovery. McConnell announced on Monday that he would not attend the picnic. He said he is doing several sessions of physical therapy each day and is working to return to the Senate. His term ends on January 3. Many people in Kentucky have questioned whether he will be well enough to go back to work. He has not appeared in public since his fall in June.
