Security guard fired after intruder breaches NBC Today show studio

An uninvited person broke into the Today show studio in New York City on July 16. The intruder got past security and reached the set, where he confronted cohost Craig Melvin. He reportedly lunged at Melvin and shouted a racial slur. No one was injured. Melvin was absent when the 9 AM broadcast hour began. NBC fired a security guard on the same day because of the breach. The network said it is reviewing what happened and looking at its security procedures. The Today show is one of NBC's biggest programmes and is based in New York City.
