Russian warship fires flares at Danish military helicopter

A Russian warship fired two flares at a Danish military helicopter over the Baltic Sea on Monday. The helicopter was on a routine photo mission in international waters near Gedser, Denmark. One flare passed very close to the aircraft. Nobody was hurt, but the helicopter's door was open at the time, which could have made the situation more dangerous.

Denmark's government called in the Russian ambassador to protest. Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said the action was "reckless" and meant to frighten and divide. The Danish Foreign Ministry called it "completely unacceptable." Russia has not made any public statement about the incident. On the same day, NATO forces shot down a drone over Lithuania.
