Rob Thomas hits bandmate with microphone stand at Illinois concert

Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty accidentally hit bandmate Paul Doucette with a microphone stand during a concert on Sunday. The band was performing at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield when it happened. Thomas was swinging the stand behind him and struck Doucette, who plays drums and guitar, in the head. The hit damaged Doucette's in-ear monitors and he left the stage for a short time. Thomas then spoke to the crowd, saying sorry and telling them the impact had been very hard. Video of the moment was shared widely on social media. Matchbox Twenty became famous in the late 1990s and still tours regularly, playing songs from their catalogue of hits.
