Postal Service finalizes rule requiring voter information from states

The US Postal Service published a new rule on Friday that could limit mail voting before November's midterm elections. The rule comes from an executive order that Donald Trump signed in March. It would stop USPS from delivering ballots to voters who are not on a federal government eligibility list. However, two courts have already blocked the rule from taking effect. One court is in California and one is in Massachusetts. Despite these blocks, USPS posted the final rule online and plans to publish it officially next week. After that, a review process will take 90 days. This timeline is a problem because many states will start sending ballots before the review finishes. About one in three Americans voted by mail in 2024.
