Poland stops Russian assassination plot against American citizen

Polish authorities stopped a Russian plot to kill a Ukrainian American man in Warsaw. A suspect was arrested on August 7 and will be held in custody for three months. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced the news on Thursday. He said the man was targeted because he was seen as a threat to Putin's government. Tusk also said this was the first time Russia had tried to kill a U.S. citizen on NATO territory. Polish and American intelligence services worked together to stop the attack. Russia has carried out several targeted killings across Europe since its invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The Russian Foreign Ministry did not comment. The U.S. State Department said it had seen the reports but could not add any further information.
